PPW Windows computers are protected automatically. To protect against malware and phishing, KU Leuven has purchased Microsoft Defender for Endpoint licenses for all personnel. If you connect it afterward, I don't think the auto-unlock function works.Microsoft Defender anti-malware (also for Mac) I think you also have to have that partition connected when the Rescue Media environment first starts. If you do the latter, be aware that you should store your Rescue Media safely because it will contain a decryption key for that partition.
Instead, you need to either use the "manage-bde" tool in Command Prompt to perform the unlock, or you can choose to have Reflect store auto-unlock keys for your backup destination inside your Rescue Media so that it unlocks automatically.

In the Rescue Media environment, there is NOT a prompt to enter a password when a BitLocker partition is connected. In that case, you will need to make sure that you can unlock that partition within the Rescue Media environment so that you can access your backups in order to perform restore operations. The other scenario to consider is if you are using BitLocker encryption on the partition where you are STORING your backups. In terms of performing restores, Macrium wrote a detailed article about that here that I would recommend reading. It is also technically possible to back up BitLocker partitions while they are still LOCKED, meaning before you have entered a password to access them, but that is not a typical process and has several disadvantages. In terms of how Reflect works with BitLocker, if you are performing backups of BitLocker partitions from inside Windows while the BitLocker partition is unlocked, then it works just like a normal backup. You can optionally enable auto-unlock for those types of partitions, in which case no prompt will appear when those partitions are connected to your system (but they will still appear if you connect those partitions to any other system, of course.) If you use BitLocker on any other partition, such as a Data partition on your hard drive or an external hard drive or flash drive, then you see a password prompt appear whenever that partition is detected by Windows. The PIN does not have to be very long in order to be strong because unlike some other encryption solutions, the PIN is not an integral part of the key derivation algorithm, and brute force attempts are addressed by slowing down multiple unsuccessful attempts. You can optionally choose to have BitLocker require a PIN in addition to the TPM in order to unlock the OS partition, in which case that prompt will appear at boot. If the platform integrity check fails, you will be prompted for the Recovery Key, so absolutely make sure you back that up.
BitLocker instead stores a decryption key in your system's TPM, and the TPM only releases it if it completes a "platform integrity check" to verify that nothing about the hardware environment has changed that might cause the password to be compromised if the TPM released the key. In terms of when the password prompts appear, if you are using BitLocker on your Windows partition, then by default there's no password at all.

The Home editions do not allow you to enable BitLocker on a partition that is not already using it (except that certain Windows 10 Home systems do allow reduced BitLocker functionality, but that's not very common.)

On Windows 8 and newer, you need Pro or better. On Windows Vista and 7, you need Enterprise or better. However, although any version of Windows since Vista can access BitLocker volumes, only certain editions can create BitLocker volumes. Windintroduced a new encryption scheme that only works on Windand newer, but you can still choose to use the original encryption scheme when setting up BitLocker on a partition if you want. But if you're asking how BitLocker works, any version of Windows Vista and up can unlock BitLocker partitions. I'm not sure what you're asking when you want people to post their "bitlocker supply-password".
